Reflections on Mod 6

April 16th, 2006 by aandj in Uncategorized · 1 Comment

Aalthough I have not recieved any replies I have enjoyed this module. Maybe because I really enjoy films that make you think, especially outside the box or stun you with their brutal up in your face truth. I think most of us can admit to ourselves that life is not always sunshine and rainbows and most of us will never experience half the truths these independant films show us. I am grateful I can see the world through rose colored glasses most the time but we can’t be afraid to take them off and see.

reading furl blog

I was looking for something a little different- and what I found was a site where amatures can post their short films and have them reviewed by others. I thought it was a great site.

Blog on reading and viewing

April 13th, 2006 by aandj in Uncategorized · 1 Comment

While the film Sex Lies and Videotape was an older film I have not ever seen it. I really enjoyed it I was nicely surprised that it wasn’t the dirty film I thought it was going to be. It touched on so many true to life things. Incecurity, infadelity, love, mistrust, taboos and more. The aproach of the film was unique. I watched the film before doing any reading adn would not really have guessed by the quality of the film itself…scenes, sound directing ect that it was an independant film although looking back due to the context and risky topics I should have been able to easily pick it out of a line up. In regards to reading the only thing I really have to say is that I am happy that independant films have come so far I would hate to see the mundane industry with out them.

Also I blogged my viewing responces on the film choice Malcom X seperatly.

Film Element Diegetic

April 5th, 2006 by aandj in Uncategorized · 6 Comments

I went to research Diegetic and found a very straight forward site that gives information regarding both diegetic and nondigetic in very straight forward layman terms. Music coming from a club on the corner of the street in a shot but is not part of the films main focus is a diegetic sound, a narrators voice telling the beginning of a story is a nondiegetic sound. The digetic sound is something that is “in” the film…another example would be the sound of a trash can turning over as long as you can see or know that the trash can is part of the film. Mood music that lets you know it is a suspensful part of the film is nondiegetic because it is not a “really” part of the movie…if you were being chased in really life there wouldn’t be any mood music playing for you.

Malcom X

April 4th, 2006 by aandj in Uncategorized · No Comments

This movie was long oh my goodness-long but good, I was very intriged with Lees jumping around a bit in the beginning and the timing in which he would cut over to an inatimite object. I was a bit confused as to why he never approched the old girl friend who was turning prostitute, why he didn’t encurage her to join him or clean up her ways…I was astounded at the end of the film during the assasination. The close up shots of the shoting of the shot gun was brilliantly done. I was overall impressed with the direction of the film, the trials tribulations and struggles it explained and forced you to witness. In my opinion a beautiful peice of work.
