Jeanne’s Reflections on reading/viewing

My perception of the reading, while very dry and leghty, I did find that I learned a lot. Although I think I knew that the major studios employed actors and actresses I didn’t realize that the were “lent” out. I find I most amuzing that MGM lent Clark Gable to an indepent film company which ended up putting Gone with the Wind out. I was also amazed at all of the controversy over film and what was acceptaqble to be seen and heard on screen. While understandabley the limits of what is acceptable today differ greatly from the 1920″s  I was still shocked at the amount of censorship.

My thoughts reagrding the reading on the production code are some what different, I found many of the codes funny and maybe even lacking in specifics allowing for much interpretation. No wonder the code when pushed back on was so easily demolished.

Easy Rider, produced by Dennis Hopper, was well a basic film conering major and hard hitting issues of the time. While obviously a very low budget film, Dennis Hopper was able to portray many realistic situations for those of the Easy Rider lifestyle. I myself found the movie pretty boring and tough to sit through, I was suprised at several points in the movie. Considering the time the film was made most people were still very conservative  the topics covered such as drug use and dealing, hitchhiking, communes/poligamy type living, public drinking, prejudice, sex, nudity, prostitution, murder and religion are risky. I was pretty suprised that it was all captured in one film.
